Abigail's Return by Pauline Tate

 Abigail Returns

by Pauline Tate

Abigail Returns by Pauline Tait was published on 30th May 2023. My thanks to the author for sending me a copy to review and to Random Book Tours for inviting me to take part on the tour.

This is the first book in The Maran Bay series

Synopsis

With just over a decade missing to Dissociative Amnesia, and a newly broken heart, Abigail finds herself with no choice but to return to Lochside. The supposedly idyllic home on the Isle of Skye she had fled so dramatically six years before.

And while struggling to find her way in a world she can’t recall, she must battle the conflicts of the present with the shocking secrets she uncovers from her past.

Jamie’s support is invaluable, but how much does he know? Greg is loving and attentive, but does he have an ulterior motive?

Meanwhile, the presence of a stranger on the island shakes Abigail to her very core.

With no memory, she can only trust her instincts as she strives to build a life and a future she can call her own.

But Abigail soon discovers the stranger’s trail leads far too close to home.

A riveting novel about new beginnings and second chances.

My Review

This was a quick , easy to read story of love, loss and intrigue set around the missing years in Abigail's memory as she returned to her Grandmother's island home. The story flows easily from Abigail fleeing her life in London to return to the Isle of Skye, which she fled six years previously, leaving everything, including her memory behind.

The sinister plot within the story is developed slowly along with the renovation of her Grandmother's house and her growing unease as to her unknown past; wondering what happened in her missing years and what other people know about them that she doesn't.

As I said this is a quick, engrossing read; I read it in one evening, and it conjures up lovely images of sitting on a jetty looking out to sea with a glass of wine in hand on many occasions. Personally I would have liked the last section of the story to have had more depth to it and to have been developed more, as I felt this section had a lot more potential. However, that could possibly have moved the book into a different genre which isn't the story's intent.

Overall this is a book I would recommend when you have an evening to yourself with a glass of something to enjoy and I am hoping that the next book in The Maran Bay series will be with us in the very near future.

About the Author

As a novelist and children's author, Pauline’s necessity to write has emerged alongside a profound passion to engage and inspire our younger generations. Her years of experience in working with and assessing children from Primaries one to seven, who needed extra-curricular support, then creating and delivering individual learning plans to meet their specific needs, has only fuelled her passion and has influenced both the writing and the production processes of her picture books.

Pauline also enjoys writing women's fiction, primarily romantic suspense. It is essential that emotions and reactions are true to their topics while the landscape and settings are truly authentic. Pauline is currently writing a series set on the Isle of Skye, an island she has been visiting for over two decades, and has formed a close bond with both the island and its people.

Pauline writes Romantic Suspense, second chance romance and contemporary romance with relatable characters and happily ever afters, alongside children's picture books for 3 to 7 years, all of which are selling worldwide.
