 Singles & Spice

 by Elaine Spires

Singles & Spice is the second in a series of books by Elaine Spires
and was published in |March 2014.
My thanks to the author for sending me a copy to review and to
Rachel at Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to take part on the tour.

Synopsis

A singles' holiday to India's Golden Triangle - Taj Mahal, the pink city of Jaipur, tiger-spotting in Ranthambore, the noisy, crowded streets of Delhi - all go to make up a trip that is hot, humid and spicy. Eve Mitchell, Travel Together's tour manager extraordinaire has a couple of familiar faces in her little group of travellers and others that she hasn't met before; sexy man-eating pensioners, a compulsive over-eater, a constant whiner and a man with a personal problem.

And there's a big surprise awaiting someone -and Eve - early one morning. By the end of the tour, which sees our group travelling by coach, rickshaw, train and elephant, she will know rather more about some of their innermost secrets than she'd like. But Eve deals with all the twists and turns the trip throws at her as we come to understand what makes people travel the world with a bunch of complete strangers and appreciate the success that is a singles' holiday.

My Review
Singles & Spice is the second book in the Singles' series, following on from Singles' Holiday. For me this was two books within one as it also gives you a quick tourist guide into different destinations and sight -seeing tours in India whilst also following the escapades of this group of singlies.
We meet up with some of the characters again from the first book, notably Eve is the tour guide again and this gives a lovely feeling of continuity between the two books and allows you to get to know some of them in more depth as well as finding out what happened to some of them in the intervening year.
As before, Eve has some interesting , and at times challenging, events and clients to deal with, but , as usual, deals with them calmly and efficiently.
For those of you who enjoyed the first book you will definitely enjoy this second one in the series as to my mind it is a better storyline as it encompasses the wonders and delights of India including the Taj Mahal and the history behind it , which I have to confess I did not know.

About the Author

Elaine Spires is a novelist, playwright and actress. Extensive travelling and a background in education and tourism perfected Elaine's keen eye for the quirky characteristics of people, captivating the humorous observations she now affectionately shares with the readers of her novels. Elaine’s latest book The Single Best Thing, is a fitting finale to the Singles’ Series, which has its roots in her background as a tour manager for a UK tour operator.

Elaine is now working on The Banjo Book Two, which is set in Dagenham where she grew up and now resides. A banjo is a pedestrianised cul-de-sac and Dagenham has many! This book will be out in the autumn.

Elaine also writes plays and her short film Only the Lonely was made by Dan Films and won the Groucho Club Best Short Film Award 2019 and two Silver Awards at WOFFF 2019.

Elaine is waiting for a film-maker with vision to turn the Singles Series into films or TV dramas.
