Synopsis

The third volume in the number one Sunday Times bestselling Joubert Family Chronicles series. A sweeping and epic love story of concealed identity, piracy and revenge, ranging from Paris and La Rochelle in 1610, to Amsterdam and the Canary Islands in the 1620s, The Ghost Ship is a thrilling and heart-breaking novel of adventure and buccaneering, love and revenge, stolen fortunes and hidden secrets on the high seas. The Barbary Coast, 1621. A mysterious vessel floats silently on the water. It is known only as The Ghost Ship. For months it has hunted pirates to liberate those enslaved during the course of their merciless raids, manned by a courageous crew of mariners from Italy and France, Holland and the Canary Islands. And now The Ghost Ship is under attack – its hull splintered, its sails tattered and burnt, and the crew at risk of capture. But the bravest among those on board are not who they seem . . . The stakes could not be higher: if arrested, they will be hanged for their alleged crimes. Can they survive the journey and escape their fate?

My Review

For all you fans of Kate Mosse that are out there this next incredible book from her won’t disappoint . I haven’t read the first two books in the series but that doesn’t matter it reads perfectly well as a standalone in its own right.

This is a book that will pull you in from the very start of the incredibly moving prologue and will keep you hooked all the way through to the very end, dreading what is , or is not going to happen and will The Captain survive , or not. All I can suggest is that you hide your self away from the world for a few days and escape into the world of Louise and Gilles and The Ghost Ship.

The incredibly descriptive writing is typical of Kate and she knows what her readers ,  both old and new, like and this is what makes her the success that she is . She has this ability to paint the most vivid pictures in your imagination so that you disappear into the world she is is writing about , moving through the streets, smelling the foul aromas and witnessing the plight of the poor , before then turning to life on the high seas and the different countries you will find yourself being transported to .

As with all of Kate’s books I find myself eagerly wanting to get to the end to find out the outcome , whilst at the same time not wanting the story to finish as I know it will be a while before I will be able to read another. In fact it will be October this year when the fourth , and final, book in The Joubert Family Chronicles is published. In the meantime enjoy The Ghost Ship and the love story within.
