Synopsis

Following the deaths of her husband and son, Helen Cartwright returns from sixty years in Australia to the English village of her childhood. Her only wish is to die quickly and without fuss. Helen retreats into her home on Westminster Crescent, becoming a creature of routine and habit. Then, one cold autumn night, a chance encounter with an abandoned pet mouse on the street outside her house sets Helen on a surprising journey of friendship, and a way back into life itself.

My Review

What a beautifully written and emotive book centred around connections and healing from the unlikeliest sources.

This utterly heartwarming read draws you in, emotively, from the very first sentence, leading you gently through the storyline day by day . It develops your understanding of friendship, wherever it is found, and that it can turn up from unexpected quarters.

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish and couldn’t put it down. It isn’t a long read , though it is the perfect length and will have you frantically hoping that everything has turns out alright whilst watching the love and importance of friendship develop over the course of a couple of weeks.

Like it says on the cover “Sometimes a second chance comes in the most unexpected way…..” which is so true and we shouldn’t discount this as we move through life.

A beautifully moving 5 🌟read which will stay with me for a long time and will have you looking at what is really important .

I am looking forward to reading more of Simon’s books in the near future.
