Synopsis

Last summer, Nan's three best friends disappeared into Saltcedar Canyon. She's spent the year since grieving their loss and avoiding questions about what happened that night. Now, on the anniversary, she's ready to say goodbye, and so are the girls' families, who have reconvened to hold a memorial. But their vigil is interrupted by the shocking return of one of the missing girls alive. Everybody is overjoyed. Everybody, that is, except Nan, who was pretty sure they were dead. After all, she's the one who killed them .

My Thoughts

This is a gripping example of YA fiction that has you turning the pages and ignoring your daily life until you have finished it. As a thriller the storyline line is disturbing and at no time do you feel comfortable with any aspect of it. Wending your way through the events before and after one of the girls “Comes back from the dead “ has you questioning everything you are reading, not knowing what is reality and what is not. As the outsider listening to the text you will find yourself looking at different angles of the events from the previous summer and wondering what actually happened before and after the events at The Devil’s Eye.

It is a clever story which twists as it develops into an incredible thriller . Different threads weaving together drawing you in, wondering who to believe, seeing the situation in a different context to the narrator, wondering how it is all going to end .

This is a book that should be on all YA book shelves and I am looking forward to reading more from Rory Power.
