The Sea Child by Linda Wilgus
The Sea Child
by Linda Wilgus
Gosh, what is there not to like about this incredible story. For a debut novel it blew my mind away with its professionalism and dedication to detail. The writing just draws you in to the beautiful Cornish surroundings that I love, along with the lives of the people who lived there . As the reader you feel as though you are seeing it through the characters eyes and Isabel is so descriptive in what she sees that you are taken deep into the heart of the novel.
You will feel the love, horror and revulsion that Isabel experiences whilst also asking yourself if she really is the daughter of The Sea Bucca !!!! Do you believe in these old Cornish Tales ?
For me Linda had a winning formula right from the start with a story of loss, hardship, love and smuggling and she interweaves these different threads with ease, coaxing them into the lovely tapestry of The Sea Child.
This is one of those stories for me that, as soon as you have finished it, you need time to relive it and go over certain aspects of it in your head, due to the facts that you have been drawn into the very depths with Isabel . In fact it was a couple of days before I wanted to read another book as I was so enjoying just sitting and reflecting on what I had read.
If you ever need a book to escape into this is definitely the one and it will be staying on my bookshelf for a long time. I sincerely hope it is not too long before we are treated to another novel from Linda; even better if it is also set in Cornwall.
