On the Twentysecond day of Advent

 "The Labyrinth of the Spirits"

By Carlos Ruiz Zafon

This is the fourth in a set about the Cemetery of Forgotten Books where the book chooses you.........

Since the first book in the series, "The Shadow of the Wind", took the reader into the eerie world of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books   when 10 year old Daniel "chose" The Shadow of the Wind " by Julian Carax, Zafon has taken the reader through tales of love and deception on many levels. There are plots within plots that forever have you wondering what the next twist of fate, or link, is going to be abd where is it going to end?

I have been hooked on these books from the beginning when I happened on the first one by pure chance during a swap.

If you have never read them I can truly recommend getting them all in one go and hiding away for a few days to emerse yourself in the old city of Barcelona.

Synopsis

As a child, Daniel Sempere discovered among the passageways of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books an extraordinary novel that would change the course of his life. Now a young man in the Barcelona of the late 1950s, Daniel runs the Sempere &Sons bookshop and enjoys a seemingly fulfilling life with his loving wife and son. Yet the mystery surrounding the death of his mother continues to plague his soul despite the moving efforts of his wife Bea and his faithful friend Fermin to save him.
Just when Daniel believes he is close to solving this enigma, a conspiracy more sinister than he could have imagined spreads it's tentacles from the hellish regime. That is when Alicia Gris appears, a soul born out of the nightmare of war. She is the one who will lead Daniel to the edge of the abyss and reveal the secret history of his family, although at a terrifying price.
