Synopsis :
The day that Delphine stands up for herself is the day that changes everything.........
For too long Delphine has been unable to let go of the past, obsessed with protecting her daughter, Em, and clinging to a secret that has cast a shadow over their lives.
When a chance encounter offers a way out, Delphine seizes it with both hands. As their lives begin to fill with colour again, can she find the courage to change their lives forever?
My Review:
This is a beautiful story centred around Delphine's relationship with her daughter and the love and support they have for each other.
As the story unfurls, her father gradually starts to emerge from his grief stricken existence, taking small steps back into the world he left behind after the death of his wife.
As Delphine and Em move forward with their lives, new friendships are forged which will each add another section to the tapestry of life and old ghosts are faced up to and laid to rest.
There is a lot to relate to within the story which is written with humour, love and kindness.
Beth has that wonderful ability to write a story that draws the reader into the characters in such a way that , by the time you arrive at the end of the book, you feel that you have known them all your life.
Her descriptive use of language builds their homes, cafe, and other settings, in your imagination in such a way that you feel as if you are there.
Em & Me is a story of love and friendship and the importance of believing in yourself and others. As you arrive at the final paragraph it leaves you with that feeling of being wrapped in a warm blanket of friendship and love.
