Singles' Holiday by Elaine Spires

 Singles' Holiday

 by Elaine Spires

Singles' Holiday is the first in a series of books by Elaine Spires and was published in 2012. My thanks to the author for sending me a copy to review and to Rachel at Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to take part on the tour.

Synopsis

Antigua. . . the Caribbean at its most luscious, its most beautiful. . . silver sand, cobalt sky, warm turquoise sea. . . and a bunch of complete strangers, who only have one thing in common: they're single.

Some are looking for romance, some for something else. But they've all chosen to spend their holiday with people they have never met before. And pretty soon, some will become good friends, some enemies and some lovers. And many of them will experience things they never expected, including their tour manager Eve, who perhaps has the biggest shock of all. A story that will make you laugh and make you cry with just the right number of twists to keep you turning the pages as you get to know all the members of the group as they, in turn, get to know each other.

My Review

My first impression of the book was its size; approx 600 pages, which for a novel ion this genre was rather on the weighty side for me.

The idea of taking a group of "singles" on what is basically a "love island" type of holiday, makes for a light hearted summer read as each chapter is developed as a story and their different romantic liaisons or aspirations materialise.

As to be expected in this type of group, secrets will be discovered, some will be kept , and your view of some of them will change as your get to know them over their two week holiday ; and yes you may relate to one or two of them .........

I enjoyed the book as a light hearted tongue in cheek read and am looking forward to reading the next two in the "Singles'" series. As i said at the beginning I did think the book was on the weighty side and would have preferred it to have been condensed by about a third for a book in this genre.

About the Author

Elaine Spires is a novelist, playwright and actress. Extensive travelling and a background in education and tourism perfected Elaine's keen eye for the quirky characteristics of people, captivating the humorous observations she now affectionately shares with the readers of her novels. Elaine’s latest book The Single Best Thing, is a fitting finale to the Singles’ Series, which has its roots in her background as a tour manager for a UK tour operator.

Elaine is now working on The Banjo Book Two, which is set in Dagenham where she grew up and now resides. A banjo is a pedestrianised cul-de-sac and Dagenham has many! This book will be out in the autumn.

Elaine also writes plays and her short film Only the Lonely was made by Dan Films and won the Groucho Club Best Short Film Award 2019 and two Silver Awards at WOFFF 2019.

Elaine is waiting for a film-maker with vision to turn the Singles Series into films or TV dramas.
