The Last Testament in Bologna
by Tom Benjamin
My thanks to the author and the publisher for sending me a copy to review and to Random Things Tours for inviting me to take part on the tour.
Synopsis
Last Testament in Bologna is the fourth in Tom Benjamin’s critically-acclaimed Bologna-set series featuring British private detective Daniel Leicester.
When
an old man makes a bequest to investigate the mysterious death of his
son, English detective Daniel Leicester follows a trail to one of
Bologna's wealthiest families - makers of some of the world's most
coveted supercars - and discovers that beneath the glamour of the
Formula One circuit lurk sinister interests that may be prepared to
kill to keep their secrets.
My Review
I will be honest this took a while to get into and I almost gave up on it as it didn’t grab my attention at the beginning. However, I did persevere, mainly because I was finding it interesting to learn about Bologna and I am glad that I did. Suddenly about a third of the way through I realised that I had been pulled in to the storyline and was keen to find out what had happened to Fabri and who, if anyone, was involved in his death.
The concept of the story being set in and around the world of the Formula One circuit and the revealing of the glamorous and cut throat society it created is intriguing and will keep you engrossed until the very end.
The characters and storyline are well developed , giving you the opportunity to create full images as you read the book which, for me , is always the sign of a good writer and narrator.
This is the first book that I have read by Tom Benjamin and it won’t be the last as I have already ordered A Quiet Death in Italy which is the first in the Daniel Leicester series. It is so refreshing to come across a new likeable detective and the Italian settings make me want to book a holiday and explore.
