Synopsis

One train, a chance encounter, three lives changed forever.

The past, we are told, can help us navigate the present and provide guidance for the future. But what if you don’t know where you came from? Would it affect how you live and love?

Love is, after all, a fickle thing. The harder we search for it, the more it eludes us. Then again, when we are not looking for it, then sometimes, just sometimes, it finds us.

A serendipitous encounter on a crowded train brings two strangers together.

Ellie is struggling to escape a semi-toxic relationship, whilst caring for her ailing father.

Rich has a secret he cannot share. Not yet at least.

As the friends traverse the emotional rollercoasters of loss and searching for her birth family, they follow a path of discovery, the end of which neither of them could foresee and which results in three lives being changed forever.

Until We Meet is a heartfelt book which deals with real world themes, including:

· Escape from the destruction of a semi-toxic relationship;

· surviving the heartbreak of a bereavement;

· the emotional rollercoaster of searching for a birth family;

· the comfort of familial love;

· and the promise of romance.

My Review

This is a book that, for the most part , I found intriguing and also incredibly hard and emotive at times to read, though I cannot say too much without giving away part of what Ellie has to cope with .

E. V. cleverly looks at some of the relationships from all perspectives as well as giving you essentially a 3D understanding of the rationale between how we only look at an issue from our side rather than someone else’s. You are able to build a very clear picture of Ellie and Ben and their relationship and its toxicity because of that narrative moving between them.

Part of the storyline is based around Ellie looking for her birth family with Rich which, for me, seemed too artificial and at odds with the first part of the book as I found myself asking “Would he really have done that ?” However, it puts a romantic element into the book which fastens all the different threads together as well as keeping you in suspense.

This is definitely a story of different themes and depending on where you are and your life experiences will depend on how you are affected, or not.

For me this brought back lots of memories, which is no bad thing , as it gave me the opportunity to take time to reflect and remember.
